“Shamseh”, the combination of Shams (sun) and eh (resemblance suffix), is one of the beautiful, ornamental and oriental design I have seen it since childhood. Similar to many geometrical patterns, Shamseh also became more common due to banning figurative motives in Islamic Iran and since that time, it has decorated different aspects of architecture including mosques domes. The “Shamseh” that I choose for this project is tiled on the ceiling of “Sheikh Lotfollah” mosque, which is an iconic Iranian traditional architecture.
